Following all your support and attendance last year, we are pleased to announce the date for our Open Fly-in weekend on the 9th and 10th June 2011.
This is one of the largest fly-ins in the calendar and being centrally based, very easy to get to and just 5 mins from the motorway junction. We will look forward to making you all very welcome.
There will be all the usual facilities to include camping by prior arrangement, catering, toilet facilities and a huge raffle (there was a record £3500 worth of goodies on the table last year!!!!!).
You can also expect a couple of flight displays from some of the best pilots in the UK.
All pilots will be required to provide proof of BMFA or RCHA insurance. The event is obviously open to pilots and visitors alike and to any pod and boom model, but not scale (see our other dates for scale events).
Please add this to your calendar, it's really one not to missed!!!
The Midland Helicopter Club are pleased to announce an Open Scale competition commencing at 10am on Sunday 14th August to be held at our club field in Warton, Warwickshire. Directions to the field, competition rules and a downloadable entry form can be found on our website at http://www.midlandhelicopterclub.org.uk after the 1st February 2010. The field will also be open on Saturday 14th for a scale fly-in and there will be a section of the field left open for ad-hoc flying all day on Sunday, so why not make a weekend of it. All pilots must show proof of current BMFA insurance if they wish to fly. A & B licenses are NOT required.
OVERVIEW
The purpose of the competition is to have a set of rules and 2 classes that allow owners of sports scale machines to compete on an equal basis with those owners of the highly detailed scale models and for each class to include both a static judging and a flight section. The overall competition winner will be the person with the highest score from either class.
To this end, there will be 2 classes available for entry, a Scale and a Super Scale class and you can choose to enter the one which best suits you and your model.
SCALE
This class is open to any scale model, however the points available are heavily weighted towards the flying section and limited in the static judging section. This class should appeal to models such as a Raptor/Funkey fuselage for example, as your model does not need to be heavily detailed... you just need to fly well to score highly and your high flight score should be "topped up" by your static points.
SUPER SCALE
This class is the reverse of above where the bulk of available points will be awarded in the static section of the competition and the model will require documents to be judged against. This class will appeal to owners of highly detailed models even if they are not easy to fly, as you will score the majority of your points from static judging and this will be "topped up" by your flight points.
There will be a winner in each class, but the overall competition winner will be the person with the most points taken from either class, so you can see that any scale model owner has a good chance of doing well in this competition and it is not about how much you have spent on your model or how advanced your building skills are. Here you can choose the class which best suits your model and skills and it is possible to walk away with not just a class win, but the win overall.
Just image, you could possibly turn up with a 450 size "stand off" scale and beat that turbine powered "hanger queen", now wouldn't that be something!!!!!!!
